What is spiritual direction?

Spiritual direction is a deep and rich form of pastoral ministry that can often be misunderstood.  At first mention, the title alone can give the impression that a spiritual director operates as a type of spiritual coach-giving advice and practical help to those wanting to grow in their faith.  Spiritual growth is a key component of this ministry, with the goal being to help develop one’s relationship with God. However, this deepening of faith is achieved through the director's ability to offer compassionate listening, discerning observations, thoughtful spiritual questions, and space for contemplation and prayer.

  A spiritual director helps:

  • facilitate a meaningful and safe space for others to process their life in God

  • increase awareness of God’s active presence, notice when and how he may be speaking

  • encourage others to respond to God’s unending invitation for deeper connection and transformation

Spiritual Direction may be a good option for you if:

  • you are wanting a deeper prayer life

  • desiring a greater awareness of God

  • want to be more contemplative about your spiritual journey

  • or yearn to grow in your relationship with the Holy Spirit.
